The history of Africana
The birthplace of nightlife on the Amalfi Coast
In the 1960s, Africana was a dazzling hub of nightlife, where an exotic, magical atmosphere set the stage for famous singers, Moulin Rouge-style performances, and extraordinary artists. Legendary nights unfolded in this unique venue, a place where time stood still and worries faded away. It was visionary entrepreneur Enzo Milano from Praiano—and later his son Luca—who shaped the Amalfi Coast’s nightlife and made it famous all around the world. To Luca Milano we owe countless unforgettable memories, shaped by the electrifying events at Africana. Here, you felt alive, you felt free. Over the years, many international figures have passed through Africana’s doors, including Gianni Agnelli, Fred Bongusto, Jacqueline Kennedy, Peppino di Capri, the Queen of the Netherlands, Renzo Arbore, and Frank Sinatra. Our mission? Restoring this legendary venue to its former glory.

A trail carved into the rock leads you to a place suspended over the sea
Le Grotte dell'Africana is reached from Praia Beach, with convenient parking and a dock for sea arrivals. From there, a scenic path carved into the cliff follows the coastline, just above the water.
In 5–7 minutes on foot, among Mediterranean scents and sea views, you’ll reach our gate.
Each evening, our hostesses welcome guests at the beach.
On request, we arrange private transfers and water taxis from Positano, Amalfi, and nearby towns.
